Yorkton Tribal Council was able to host its first event since the beginning of the pandemic: Honoring the Drum – Every Child Matters Pow Wow took place on March 21, 2022. The Tribal Council received its first drum, and was eager to put it to use. FSIN Vice Chief Aly Bear was in attendance as well as Yorkton Mayor Mitch Hippsley. Also in attendance was Isabella Kulak of Cote First Nation, who started a national movement promoting reconciliation after she was shamed for wearing her traditional ribbon skirt to school. Kulak was honored as a young leader in the first nation community promoting the upholding of traditional values and raising awareness in school across Canada.

The Honoring the Drum Pow Wow ended up being a great success – a big thanks to its main organizer, Corey Cadotte!

Yorkton Tribal Council looks forward to the many community events in store for the future that will also be a great success, and continue to bring members of the community together.
